Dear Friends:

Thank you for your interest in Holy Names of Jesus and Mary School. Our school is one of the nine Jubilee Schools in the Catholic Diocese of Memphis, Tennessee.

In 1999, Bishop J. Terry Steib, SVD envisioned reopening the urban Catholic schools that had been closed and naming them in honor of the Jubilee Year 2000, which in Catholic Church tradition is a year of mercy for the poor.

The reopening of these schools was made possible because of a large monetary gift by anonymous donors, which provides need based scholarship to make a Catholic education possible for any family.

Holy Names of Jesus and Mary School opened in 1939 and closed in 1969.  In 2002, our doors were re-opened and we welcomed a total of 36 students.  We presently have and enrollment of 70 students in grades 3 to 8. Our focus is to teach in the Catholic Christian tradition with emphasis on spiritual development and strong academics. Our spiritual foundation is rooted in the charism of the Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament, founded by Saint Katharine Drexel and influenced by the spirituality of St. Alphonsus Maria Liguori.

Our Mission Statement is our anchor:

Every child is a unique creation of God, endowed with gifts and talents to be nurtured and developed.  It is our purpose to teach the child not only the academic subjects for success in the contemporary world, but also to guide and direct her/his spiritual, moral, and emotional growth.

We commit ourselves to the development of the whole child, body and soul – heart and mind.

We hold the belief that parents are the primary teachers and we work toward the development of a positive home - school relationship.  We care about each child and want the best for each child.  We strive to help our students perform at or above their grade level.

We may not be the best school in Memphis, but that is our goal — to be the BEST!

Our doors are open to you! Come and see what we are about!

In our Eucharistic Lord,
